Back to the custom storage cabinet project - here is how to make a cross support bar for the doors.
Using the frame and panel router bit setup, I route both sides of the cross bar member, and give the ends an opposing tongue. Using a matching bit setup, this is an easy task and looks great! Here are pictures of the pre-assembled cross members...
I made some "foot pads" to hold the pieces of the doors in place while I glued them together. When working alone, these little jigs come in handy! They allow me to stack the pieces together, and not have to work on too many parts at one time. For a door panel this long, I can only use a strap clamp to hold it together while the glue dries. You will also notice that I pre-stain as many pieces as possible. This allows me to avoid stain build up in corners, and gives a more professional look.
